The College at Brockport women's tennis team swept the singles matches on Saturday afternoon to defeat Oswego 8-1 at home. The Golden Eagles move to 2-2 on the year, while the Lakers fall to 0-3 in 2011.
In doubles action, sophomore Mackenzie Rounds (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) and junior Carolyn McMenemon (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) teamed up to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. At second doubles, seniors Kaitlyn Broderick (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) and Jen Lazarony (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) also registered a victory, winning 8-2.
“Kaitlyn and Jen played their best match of the year together today,” head coach Ben Klempka said.
The Golden Eagles pulled away during singles action, only surrendering 17 games in six matches. Rounds earned her first singles win of the season at the No. 1 flight.
“I played a smart match,” Rounds said. “It feels great to have a win under my belt, and I'm excited to keep moving forward.”
Lazarony, McMenemon and Broderick all won the second set of their matches 6-0 at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
Junior Katelyn Richenberg (Stafford, NY/Batavia) won a tight first set, 6-4, before closing her match at fifth singles with a 6-1 triumph in the second set. Sophomore Ellen Meyers (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) completed the singles sweep with a victory at the No. 6 flight.
Brockport next match is on Tuesday, as they host Geneseo at 4 pm.
