Senior Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Sacred Heart) continued her streak of consecutive double-doubles to four straight matches as The College at Brockport Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday on the final day of competition at the Ithaca Invitational at Ithaca College.
Nowak recorded 15 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 loss to Widener University to start the day and added 20 kills and 13 digs in a 3-0 loss to Union College as the Golden Eagles (4-6) finished the tournament with a 1-3 overall record. Nowak was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.
In the Widener match, Brockport fell by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-17 and the Golden Eagles surrendered sets of 28-26, 25-21 and 25-19 against Union College in the afternoon match.
Against Widener, Nowak had her 15 kills and 10 digs while junior Mary Cocking (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) added 13 digs, Sarah Zelko (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) recorded 28 assists and Jessica Senek (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) had seven kills.
Against Union, Nowak had 20 kills and 13 digs while Nicole Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway) added nine kills and a .600 hitting percentage, Cocking added 19 digs, Zelko handed out 35 assists and freshman Chelsea Ross (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) recorded a career-high 12 digs for Brockport.
“We played poorly in the first match but I was happy at the way we rebounded in the afternoon to play our best for the weekend despite the loss,” said head coach Kelly Greapentrog. “Several players stepped their game up in the afternoon and it was good to see some younger players step up.”
