BOXSCORE

The College at Brockport field hockey team held nationally-ranked Cortland scoreless for most of the game, but was unable to keep the Red Dragons off the board in a 1-0 loss in its home opener on Friday.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The No. 16 Red Dragons improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in SUNYAC play.

The Red Dragons out-shot the Golden Eagles 9-0 throughout the game, but the Brockport defense kept the ball out of the net until late in the game. With exactly 13 minutes left, Danielle Groneman scored her second goal of the season on a redirect off a pass from Liz DeWaters.

Cortland earned 14 penalty corners in the contest, to just two for Brockport. The Golden Eagles defense, anchored by junior Elizabeth Bradshaw (Rochester, NY/Eastridge), continually denied the Red Dragons in the game.

Brockport goalie Kasey Schreiner (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) recorded six stops in a losing effort. Cortland's Amanda Perricone earned the win in net for the Red Dragons.

The Golden Eagles look to avenge a Sept. 11 loss to Oswego, when they host the Lakers at 1 pm Saturday.
