The College at Brockport women's tennis team defeated host Keuka 9-0 on Tuesday to end a three-match losing streak. The Golden Eagles improve to 3-5 this season.
The duos of
Mackenzie Rounds (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) and
Carolyn McMenemon (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush, and
Lauren Bohman (Sayville, NY/Sayville) and
Shelby Kielbasa (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) both won 8-5 at first and third doubles, respectively.
Kaitlyn Broderick (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) and
Katelyn Richenberg (Stafford, NY/Batavia) teamed up to earn an 8-2 win at the No. 2 flight.
With a 3-0 lead going into singles, the Golden Eagles confidently swept the singles competition. Rounds won a 6-0 first set before her opponent retired. McMenemon and Broderick each surrendered one game in No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Richenberg won all 12 games in her match at No. 4 singles. Bohman also only gave up when one game, triumphing at fifth singles.
In the sixth singles slot, freshman
Abbi Rice (Brockport, NY/Brockport) earned her first collegiate win, defeating her opponent 6-2, 7-5.
“It was great to see Abbi pick up her first collegiate win,” head coach
Ben Klempka said. “The entire team came together and picked up a big win to end the losing skid.”
Brockport travels to the ITA Northeast Region Championship at Hobart on Friday.
