BOXSCORE
The College at Brockport women's tennis team fell just short for the second time in three matches this season, losing 5-4 to host St. John Fisher Thursday afternoon.
Brockport (1-2) lost two of three doubles matches, and was unable to overcome the deficit in singles as the two sides split the six singles matches. The win improves St. John Fisher's record to 2-0. The only doubles win for the Golden Eagles came at the No. 3 flight, as sophomore Ellen Meyers (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) and junior Katelyn Richenberg (Stafford, NY/Batavia) teamed up to win 8-6.
Junior Carolyn McMenemon (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) won her first match of the season at third singles, with a score of 6-3, 6-1.
“Carolyn played a great match at third singles to get her first win of the year,” head coach Ben Klempka said. “We need to continue working on doubles, but it was an overall great effort today.”
Richenberg picked up her second win of the day at No. 5 singles, beating St. John Fisher's Sania Zaki 7-6(2), 6-1. The last win for Brockport came at No. 6 singles. Freshman Lauren Bohman (Sayville, NY/Sayville) improved her career record to 5-0 in a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Brockport is back in action when they host Oswego on Saturday at noon.
