The College at Brockport Tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to Oneonta in its first round match at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship Friday afternoon in Binghamton. The Golden Eagles will face Oswego in the consolation bracket of the tournament at 8 am Saturday. A win Saturday would put Brockport in the pairing to play for fifth place in the tournament.
Against Oneonta, Brockport, the No. 2 seeded team from the West Division, lost all three doubles matches with the closest score coming in the No. 2 doubles position as
Mackenzie Rounds (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) and partner
Amy Kurmis (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) fell by an 8-6 score.
Rounds also played at No. 1 singles but her match was suspended after the Red Dragons, the No. 3 seeded team in the East Division, won their singles matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles to clinch the five wins necessary to end the match.
Lauren Bohman (Sayville, NY/Sayville) was leading in her singles match at No. 5 singles before it was suspended and
Sarah Stromski (Peconic, NY/Southold) dropped the first set at No. 6 singles in a tie-breaker but had rebounded to lead 2-0 in the second set before that match was suspended.
Earlier in the season, Brockport scored an 8-1 win over potential consolation round opponent Oswego and dropped a 9-0 decision to New Paltz.
