Nicole DeRose (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) for a key doubles victory and then scored an 11-9 tie-breaker victory at No. 5 singles to lead The College at Brockport Tennis team to a thrilling 5-4 win over Cortland in the 5th-place match at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship Sunday in Binghamton.
Bohman and DeRose scored a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles and DeRose added a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles but it was Bohman's No. 5 singles match that decided the match with Cortland. After dropping the opening set, 5-7, Bohman rebounded to score a 6-4 win in the second set. With the match running late, the decision was made to play a third set tie breaker to decide a winner.
Bohman faced a match point but scored the final three points for the 11-9 victory.
Mackenzie Rounds (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley ) and freshman
Amy Kurmis (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) won a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles as Brockport took a 2-1 lead in the match after doubles play.
Katelyn Richenberg (Stafford, NY/Batavia) won her singles match at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-3 decision.
