Brockport Rolls Over Oneonta 83-70

The Golden Eagles hit 11 three-pointers on the day to earn the conference win

The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team cruised to its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory as the Golden Eagles defeated Oneonta 83-70 on Saturday afternoon. 10 different players reached the scoring column for Brockport, including four in double figures.

Brockport used the three-point shot early on to get a lead on the Red Dragons. Matt Lee (Ballston Spa, NY/Shenendehowa) sank a three at the 16:31 mark to put Brockport up 10-9 and the Golden Eagles maintained the lead for the remainder of the game. Brockport built its lead to as large as 18 in the second half to take the conference victory.

John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) led Brockport in scoring for the fourth straight game as the junior netted 17 points. Lance Legister (Staten Island, NY/Millbrook School) scored 16 points while Bobby Bell (Rochester, NY/East) and Derek Klein (Valley Stream, NY/Long Island Lutheran) scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.

With Brockport leading 17-11, Legister scored seven straight Golden Eagle points to put Brockport up 24-15. The Golden Eagles scored the final seven points of the first half to take a 44-33 lead into intermission.

Klein drained a three-point shot at the 17:07 mark of the second half as Brockport hit three in a row from deep. Klein finished the game a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc. A layup by Bell with under 13 minutes to play gave Brockport an 18-point lead and the Golden Eagles carried the double-digit lead for the rest of the contest.

Brockport's win over Oneonta is the first at Oneonta in its last four tries.

The Golden Eagles connected on double-digit three-point shots for the third time this season as Brockport went 11-26 from deep. Brockport hit 48 percent of its shots on the day. Klein grabbed a team-high four steals as the Golden Eagles forced 16 Red Dragon turnovers on the day.

Next up for the Golden Eagles is the Brockport Invitational on Dec. 29-30. Brockport will take on Pitt-Bradford in the opening round and will take on either Canton or Wells on the second day.
