Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team continued to roll as the Golden Eagles defeated New Paltz 94-78 on Saturday afternoon. Brockport's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) record improves to 7-6 overall and have won three of their last four conference games.
Green finished the game with a team-high 25 points on 9-15 shooting and had 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. The forward also contributed three steals, three assists and two blocks to fill the stat sheet. Over his last five games, Green is averaging 17.6 points and 8.2 rebounds a game and shooting 90 percent from the free throw line.
Green scored six of the team's first eight points as the game proved to be a scoring contest between Green and New Paltz forward Matt Devine who finished the game with 35 points. Lance Legister (State Island, NY/Millbrook School) chipped in 11 points, six coming from the free-throw line, in the first half. Brockport got to the line 20 times in the first half, hitting 14 attempts. Brockport's largest first half lead came after two
Kazeem Are (South Orange, NY/Columbia) free throws to give the Golden Eagles a 14 point advantage, 41-27. Brockport went into halftime leading by 11, 43-32.
Brockport used a strong shooting performance in the second half to hold onto their double-digit lead for most of the second half. The Golden Eagles shot 65.2 percent (15-23) from the floor in the half and finished the game at 50 percent. Derek Klein (Valley Stream, NY/Long Island Lutheran) sank a free-throw with just over five minutes to play. Legister finished the game with 18 points and
Stephen Sisson (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Springs) finished with a season-high 12 points.
The Golden Eagles finished 32-42 from the free throw line, both season-highs for makes and attempts. The Brockport defense held the Hawks to just 7-24 from behind the three-point line for a 29.2 percentage. For the second night in a row, Brockport put 11 players into the scoring column.
“We got to play a lot of guys today,” said head coach
Greg Dunne. “We got the two wins to protect our house and made the adjustments we needed to make.”
Brockport remains tied with Fredonia State in league standings. The Golden Eagles will square off against the Blue Devils on Friday, Feb. 10 at Fredonia. Brockport will travel to Buffalo State on Saturday, Feb. 11 for another SUNYAC matchup.
