Elliott Scores Four in Loss to Clarkson

The Golden Eagles fell to Clarkson 14-10 on Saturday

Junior Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) continued his strong start to the 2012 season by scoring four goals and adding an assist but The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team fell to Clarkson on Saturday, 14-10.

Elliott scored two goals in the fourth quarter to give him 13 on the season. Brendon Rothfuss (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Brad Weber (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) each scored two goals. The Golden Eagles outscored Clarkson in the second half but fell behind early in the game.

Clarkson jumped out to a 3-0 lead with all three goals coming in 3:40 span in the first quarter. Rothfuss scored his first goal of the game at the 4:12 mark, but Clarkson responded with   their own score. Elliot picked up his first goal of the game with 1:29 remaining to pull within 4-2. Clarkson came right back 17 seconds later to gain the three goal lead.

Rothfuss wasted no time finding the back of the net in second quarter as the sophomore netted his second goal just five seconds into the quarter. Just over two minutes later Weber picked up his first goal of the game as Brockport was a man down to pull within one. After another Clarkson goal, Elliot took advantage of an extra-man advantage to net his second goal of the half on an assist from Rothfuss. As the Golden Eagles were fighting to tie the game up, Clarkson rattled off five straight goals, including three in less than two minutes, to close out the first half with an 11-5 lead.

Each team scored one goal early on in the third quarter. Clarkson opened up the fourth quarter with a goal six seconds into the quarter to give them their largest lead of the day. Brockport scored four of the final five goals of the game, including both of Elliot's scores, but the clock ran out on the Golden Eagles.

Keenan Sullivan (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) won 50 percent of his faceoff's going 6-12. Nate Thomas (Cortland, NY/Cortland picked up a game-high 10 ground balls on the day and also went 8-12 on faceoffs. As a team, the Golden Eagles went 17-27 on faceoffs.

Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) and Jason Baetzhold (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) split time in net. Baetzhold saved 10 shots and allowed five goals while Banwaree allowed nine goals to four saves and was credited with the loss.
