Early Lead Disappears in Road Loss to Kean

Junior Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and sophomore Brendon Rothfuss (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) recorded five points each to help The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team build an early 8-4 lead but Kean University used a 7-2 goals advantage in the second half to recover and score an 11-10 victory Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at Kean Alumni Stadium in Union, NJ.

Brockport (1-5) outscored Kean (6-1) 5-1 in the second quarter to build an 8-4 lead at the halftime intermission after each team scored three times in the opening quarter of play.

Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity-Pawling), Rothfuss and Matt Andon-McLane (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) each scored in the first quarter including Andon-McLane's goal with just one second remaining in the quarter with Rothfuss earning the assist on the play.

In the second quarter, Elliott gave Brockport a 4-3 lead and after Kean knotted the score 1:31 later, the Golden Eagles rattled off four straight goals over the final seven minutes of the first half to take the 8-4 lead.

Elliott, Austin, Rothfuss and Andon-McLane each scored once in the run for Brockport.

Kean scored the first four goals of the second half – all coming in the final 5:36 of the third quarter to tie the score at 8-8 with 1:21 remaining in the quarter and Elliott scored the first of two second-half goals to regain the lead at 9-8 with 13 seconds left in the third quarter.

Kean tied the score again 36 seconds into the final quarter and took a 10-9 lead with 8:17 remaining. Two minutes later, Elliott tied the score again at 10-10 but the Cougars scored the final goal of the game with 3:34 left to play and held on for the one-goal victory.

For Brockport, Elliott had four goals and an assist while Rothfuss added a pair of goals and three assists. Andon-McLane had two goals and an assist and Austin chipped in a pair of goals. Brad Weber (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili), Bryon Palmer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) and Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) each recorded an assist. Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) was credited with nine saves in the game including six in the first quarter.
