Karen Bianchi (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) scored six goals as The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team used a dominant first half to defeat RIT on Wednesday afternoon 23-16. The win improves the Golden Eagles to 3-1 on the season.
Brockport poured in 15 goals in the first half as Bianchi scored five consecutive goals in a five minute span. Brockport led at halftime 15-4 and managed to keep RIT far enough away in the second half to secure the win. The 23 goals are the most by the team this season and Bianchi's six goals are the most by a player this year.
Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) tallied five points on the day as she was one of five Golden Eagles to score at least two goals, including Bianchi.
Brockport scored the first three goals of the game as Zartman notched the first at the 23:34 mark.
Dayna Piraino (Syracuse, NY/Henniger) and
Alyssa Scordo (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) scored 14 seconds apart to build the lead to 3-0. RIT scored three goals over the next six minutes, but after each score Brockport was able to answer as the Golden Eagles led 6-3 with 15:42 remaining.
Zartman found the back of the net for the second time and it sparked a critical run by Brockport. The Golden Eagles scored six more goals in a row, including one by Piraino and the five-goal run by Bianchi as Brockport pulled away.
Erin Featherstone (Tully, NY/Tully) and Allyson Wolf (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) finished off the first half scoring with a goal each in the last two minutes.
RIT put together their own offensive outburst in the second half but the Tigers never got closer than six goals.
Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) scored three second half goals and finished the game with four goals and one assist. Piraino tallied three goals and five assists on the day. The five assists tie a career-high for the senior. Scordo also scored two goals and added one assist.
Hannah O'Connor (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) got her third win of the season in net for Brockport as she made a career-high 11 saves. RIT was limited to just six goals on 16 free position attempts on the day.
Sarah Brown (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) led the team with four draw controls.
