Dumas Smacks Three Homers in SUNYAC Split

Sophomore Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) hit a home run in game one and added two more homers in game two leading The College at Brockport Softball team to a split of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNAYC) doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Oswego. Brockport won the opener, 8-0, in five innings and dropped the nightcap 10-8.
 
Brockport (12-4 Overall, 1-3 SUNYAC) hit three home runs in the first game including two in the five-run third inning as Amy Nowak (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) connected on a solo shot and Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) hit a three-run home run later in the inning. Dumas gave Brockport an early lead with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning.
 
After the five-run third inning, Brockport led 8-0 and cruised to the win as Jean Farrell (Rochester, NY/Penfield) controlled the Oswego (5-7, 1-2) lineup allowing just three hits and striking out two.
 
In game two, Brockport jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third inning but Oswego answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 3-2 lead. The Golden Eagles responded with five runs in the top of the fifth inning to regain the lead at 7-3 and held to a 7-6 lead after the Lakers scored three times in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Oswego scored four more runs in the sixth for a 10-6 lead and Brockport rallied in the seventh but scored only one run and had two runners on base with no outs before the final three batters were retired to end the game.
 
Dumas homered in the third inning with a two-run shot to give the Golden Eagles the 2-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Dumas added a three-run shot to right centerfield to spark the five-run inning for Brockport.
 
Brockport pounded out 17 hits in the second game of the doubleheader and had 28 hits on the day. Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was 6-for-9 on the day and Liz Hochman (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) was 5-for-7 at the plate with two doubles. Dumas finished 4-for-6 with three runs scored, seven runs batted in and the three home runs. Nowak was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI. Jenna Yates (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) was also 3-for-6 with a pair of runs and Susanna Johnson (Edmeston, NY/Edmeston) was 2-for-4 with one run batted in during game two.
