Junior Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and senior Liz Hochman (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) paced the Brockport offense on Wednesday as the Golden Eagles swept a doubleheader against the RIT Tigers. Rana went 3-3 in an 8-4 victory in game one and Hochman homered in game two as Brockport won 9-5.

Rana went 4-4 overall on the day with four singles and four runs scored. The junior also added one run batted in and two walks to lead the Brockport attack. The Golden Eagles used a five-run fourth inning for a come from behind victory in the first game. Brockport wasted no time in game two as the Golden Eagles put together a six-run first inning as Hochman doubled and drove in two runs in the inning to help Brockport improve to 17-7 overall.

Brockport fell behind early in game one as the Tigers scored three runs in the first inning off of starting pitcher Jean Farrell (Rochester, NY/Penfield). The Golden Eagles got one run back in the third after Rana walked with two outs for the first base runner of the inning. Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) singled to move Rana to second and then Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) singled to drive in Rana.

Relief pitcher Leslie Dempsey (Windsor, NY/Windsor) pitched a perfect second and third to keep Brockport within striking distance. In the top of the fourth with one out and bases loaded, Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) doubled down the left field line to drive in Jessica Stahl (Brockport, NY/Aquinas) and Jenna Yates (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) and tie the game. The next batter, Rana, singled to left to drive in Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) who reached on a  walk. Ferchen and Rana both later scored on separate errors by the catcher as Brockport took a 6-3 lead.

RIT scored one run in the bottom half of the fourth to get within two until the Golden Eagles added two more to the runs column in the top of the sixth. Ferchen scored her second  run of the game after drawing a walk, stealing second, and eventually scoring on an error. Rana also scored in the inning on an RBI-groundout by Dumas.

Dempsey wound up with the win after pitching six innings and allowing just four hits and one earned run. The freshman struck out five Tigers and allowed just one walk. Along with Rana's three-hit performance, Amy Nowak (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) had a two hit game.

Game two saw a different beginning as the Golden Eagles took the early lead. Rana started the game off with her first single of the game and then stole second base for her team-leading eighth steal of the year. Rana scored on a single to right by Nowak. Hochman came through with the big hit of the inning, driving in Nowak and Dumas with a double to right field. Hochman scored on the next at-bat as Yates doubled to right center. With two outs, the next six batters reached base as a result of two hits, three walks and one error. Stahl and Susanna Johnson (Edmeston, NY/Edmeston) both scored on bases-loaded walks. Hochman hit her second homerun of the year in the second inning to add to the lead.

Erin Fleming (Freindship, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) got the start in the circle in game two. The sophomore allowed one run in the second but Brockport got that run back in the fourth as Erika Lazzaro (Oswego, NY/Oswego) tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nicole Atkins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North). Johnson doubled in the fifth and scored on a double by Marissa Levia (Olean, NY/Olean) to make the score 9-2.

RIT scored three in the bottom of the fifth, only one which was earned. Jean Farrell returned to the circle in the top of the sixth and allowed just one hit in two innings of relief work as the Golden Eagles completed the sweep.
