Sophomore Erin Fleming (Friendship, NY/Bolivar-Richfield) tossed a shutout and fellow sophomore Melissa Martin (Deposit, NY/Deposit) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in game two leading The College at Brockport Softball team to a 7-0 victory and a split of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader against Potsdam Friday afternoon in Potsdam. The Bears won the opener by a 5-1 score.

Brockport (18-8 Overall, 3-5 SUNYAC) was limited to five hits in the opener but rebounded for 10 hits and a three-run fourth inning to salvage a split with the Bears.

In the first game, Brockport scored in the top of the first inning to take the early lead but Potsdam (9-15, 2-8) responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning and added another run in the third and two in the fifth for the victory. The Golden Eagles opened the game with Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) singled, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a throwing error for the early lead.

Rana, Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Jenna Yates (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East), and Jessica Stahl (Brockport, NY/Aquinas) each had one hit for Brockport in the opener.
Senior Jean Farrell (Rochester, NY/Penfield) pitched the complete game allowing two earned runs and striking out eight batters.

In game two, Brockport scored single runs in each of the first two innings and then scored three runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth for the final score.

In the first, Meghan Power (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) reached base on a throwing error and came around to score two batters later on a fielder's choice play. In the second inning, Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) singled with one out and Martin followed with a double over the head of the left fielder to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Kayla Ladd (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) singled to start the inning but was erased on a fielder's choice as Ferchen replaced her at first base. Martin followed with a single to put runners on the corners. A double-steal allowed Ferchen to score from third and two batters later, Power walked and both runners came home with a Dumas single.

In the sixth inning, Martin led off the inning with a single, moved to second with a sacrifice bunt. Power singled and both runners came in when Dumas belted a double that hit near the top of the outfield fence in left centerfield.

Fleming tossed the shutout with four hits allowed, three strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
