The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team saw two big leads slip away against Buffalo State on Wednesday as the Golden Eagles fell on a late goal 13-12 in a State University of New York Athletic conference (SUNYAC) contest. Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) and Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) paced the Brockport offense with three goals apiece.

Brockport held two separate five goal advantages, including a 5-0 lead to begin the game but the Bengals scored the games' final five goals to take the conference victory. Both teams are now tied for fourth place with a 4-3 record in the SUNYAC. Each team has one conference game remaining in the regular season.

Maguire gave Brockport a boost out of the gate scoring three of the team's first four goals with the other coming from Zartman. Alyssa Scordo (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) scored at the 11:07 mark to put Brockport up 5-0. The Bengals came storming back though, netting five goals in a span of 6:25. Zartman found herself in front of the net with under a minute to play in the first half and helped regain the lead with a goal with 48 seconds remaining.

Buffalo State opened up the second half with a goal just 26 seconds in. Brockport took the lead back as Sarah Brown (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) found Karen Bianchi (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) for her first goal of the game. Buffalo State once again tied the game at eight as the second half began to shape up like a back and forth struggle. That was until the Golden Eagles put together another solid run to pull away. Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored on an assist from Brown. Brockport then converted on three consecutive free position shots, one each from Scordo, Zartman, and Katie Sullivan (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) to put the Golden Eagles up 12-8, but with plenty of time remaining on the clock.

Just 22 seconds after Sullivan put Brockport up by four, Buffalo State scored a goal to cut into the lead. The Bengals scored the next four goals with the final tally coming with 6:42 to play. Freshman Hannah O'Connor (Syracuse, NY/Westhill made a point-blank save with just over a minute to play to give Brockport one more scoring opportunity, but the Golden Eagles failed to net the equalizer.

O'Connor finished with seven saves on the day against a team that boasts two of the top four scorers in the SUNYAC. The game was as statistically even as the two teams' records. Brockport outshot the Bengals by the slimmest of margins, 27-26. Buffalo State converted four of six free position shots while the Golden Eagles went four for five on the day.

Brockport's final conference game comes against Oneonta on Saturday. The Red Dragons also hold a 4-3 record in the final stretch of the season. Buffalo State's final game comes against the 2-5 New Paltz Hawks, also set for Saturday.
