Sophomore
Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) tied the Brockport single season home run record in game two of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader by belting two round-trippers in a 12-7 victory over Fredonia. The Golden Eagles dropped game one 8-4 and are now 8-8 in the SUNYAC, one game ahead of the 7-9 Blue Devils.
Dumas used both sides of the field, drilling an 0-1 pitch to right center for her first home run to tie the game at four in the third. Dumas then towered a home run off of the left field scoreboard for a two-run shot to give Brockport a 9-4 lead. With two home runs, Dumas now has 10 on the season, tying her with Kim Comtois (2003) and Lisa Nowhitney (1997). The sophomore finished the game 2-4 with three runs and three runs batted in.
Amy Nowak (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) also drove in three runs in the victory.
Sophomore
Erin Fleming (Friendship, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) got the start in game one against the Blue Devils. The sophomore allowed one run in the top of the second.
Meghan Power (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) gave Brockport a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the second with a two-run single, scoring Nowak and
Liz Hochman (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon).
The Blue Devils tied the game up with a run in the third and then opened the game up in the fourth with six runs, but only two were earned. Dumas drove in
Jenna Yates (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) in the fifth and
Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) scored on an illegal pitch in the seventh, but the Golden Eagles ran out of steam.
Fredonia carried the momentum into game two, scoring four runs in the top of the first off of Brockport starting pitcher
Jean Farrell (Rochester, NY/Penfield). The offense picked Farrell up in the bottom of the first, getting back three runs of their own. Yates scored on a bases loaded walk.
Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) doubled to left center to drive in Hochman and Dumas. Dumas' home run in the third tied the game at four and the Golden Eagles tacked on five in the bottom of the fourth. Rana used her speed to stretch a single into a double on a bloop hit to shallow left center.
Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) scored on the play. Yates then singled up the middle to score
Jessica Stahl (Brockport, NY/Aquinas). Rana scored on a passed ball and Yates scored on Dumas' second blast of the day to put Brockport up 9-4
Fredonia scored three runs in the top half of the fifth to make the game interesting, but Nowak provided a two-run home run of her own in the sixth inning to give Brockport a 12-7 advantage. Nowak went 1-2 in the game with two walks and one run scored along with the three RBI. Rana, Yates, and Rosenbarker all finished game two with two hits each.
Farrell picked up her 11th win on the year, going seven strong innings and allowed just three earned runs. Two days after striking out 16 batters to tie the Brockport school record against the University of Rochester, Farrell struck out eight Blue Devils. The senior issued just one walk.
As of Friday, Brockport holds the fifth spot in the SUNYAC standings while the Blue Devils hold the sixth and final playoff spot. The Golden Eagles take on Buffalo State for a conference doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00 pm. The Bengals are currently in fourth place with a 9-7 record.
