The College at Brockport Women's softball team locked up a berth in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament next week with a doubleheader split against Buffalo State on Saturday. Kayla Ladd (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) and Liz Hochman (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) each had a home run and two hits in an 8-0 victory in game two. The Golden Eagles dropped game one 6-3.

With the victory, Brockport improves to 9-9 in the SUNYAC and are currently in fifth place. The sixth and final playoff spot will come down to the wire with Oswego and Fredonia battling for the last berth. The Golden Eagles are most likely headed for a first round matchup against Plattsburgh at the SUNYAC Tournament, hosted by top seed Cortland on Thursday, May 3.

The Golden Eagles managed just five hits in the game one defeat. Brockport starting pitcher Erin Fleming (Friendship, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) allowed just one hit through the first three innings of play. Buffalo State plated the games' first run in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles fell behind 4-0 in the fifth as Fleming allowed a three-run home run.

Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth, the Golden Eagles cut into the lead. Amy Nowak (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) doubled to the left center wall to score Jenna Yates (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East). Pinch-hitter Susanna Johnson (Edmeston, NY/Edmeston) got her first at-bat in six games and came through in the clutch with a two-run single to score Nowak and Hochman. A double play ended the threat and Brockport failed to score in the seventh to drop game one.

Game two opened up similar to game one, scoreless through the first three frames. Ladd came to the plate for her second at-bat of the game and drilled a pitch to deep center field for a three-run home run. Brockport closed out the game with the Mercy Rule in the fifth inning. Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), who tied the single season home run record in yesterday's game against Fredonia, doubled to score Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). Hochman then came to bat and drilled her third home run of the season to left center and drove in Marissa Levia (Olean, NY/Olean). After a double by Ladd, Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) singled up the middle to score two runs and clinch the victory.

Jean Farrell (Rochester, NY/Penfield) got her fifth straight victory, pitching all five innings and allowing just three hits while striking out four. The senior is now 12-8 on the year with a 2.36 ERA.

Cortland has guaranteed themselves the top seed while Plattsburgh has clinched the second seed, Geneseo the third, and Buffalo State the fourth. Oswego has two games remaining, a doubleheader against Oneonta. A win will secure a playoff berth for the Lakers while a split will assure Brockport of the No. 5 seed.
