Freshmen Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Katie Sullivan (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) scored three goals each and were the top scorers for The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team Tuesday afternoon but the Golden Eagles dropped a 17-11 decision to Cortland in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest in Cortland.

The Red Dragons (8-1 Overall, 2-0 SUNYAC), ranked No. 2 in the nation in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll released Tuesday, used a six-goal run in the first half to take a 7-1 lead and the two teams played even for the remainder of the game with Brockport (5-2, 1-1) unable to trim the lead.

Sullivan scored 10 minutes into the game on a free-position shot to tie the score at 1-1 but Cortland scored the next six consecutive goals over a 13-minute span to take a 7-1 lead. Tassone and junior Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) scored to cut the lead to 7-3 before Cortland added two late goals in the half to take a 9-3 advantage into the halftime intermission.

In the second half, Cortland scored three goals in the first five minutes of the period for a 12-3 lead before Dayna Piraino (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) scored twice within a 60-second span for Brockport. Cortland added three more goals for a 15-5 lead before the Golden Eagles answered with four straight goals to get back within six goals at 15-9 with 11:42 remaining in the half.

Tassone scored twice in the run with Sullivan adding one and Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) scoring the fourth for Brockport.

The teams exchanged goals down the stretch for the final score of 17-11 as Sullivan added her third goal of the game and Zartman notched her second of the contest.

The 11 goals scored against the Red Dragons is the most since top-ranked Salisbury scored 12 in a 12-11 victory over Cortland in the only loss of the season for the Red Dragons.
