First Half Run Gives Lacrosse Easy Win

Senior Dayna Piraino (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) scored three goals and handed out three assists to lead The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team to a convincing 20-8 victory over New Paltz Saturday in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game in Brockport. The six points on the day moved Piraino into second place on the all-time scoring list at Brockport as the senior now has 206 career points. Piraino passed Julie Decker who finished her career with 204 points in 2009.
 
Against New Paltz (4-6 Overall, 0-2 SUNYAC), the Golden Eagles (6-2, 2-1) jumped out to an early lead with a goal by Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) in the first minute of action. The Hawks responded quickly and took a 2-1 lead with a pair of goals in a span of six minutes with the go-ahead goal coming at the 22-minute mark of the half.
 
The Brockport offense took over at that point and scored the next 13 consecutive goals to end the first half and added a 14th straight goal to start the second half taking a commanding 15-2 lead.
 
Alyssa Scordo (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) and Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) each scored three times in the run while Piraino chipped in two goals and three assists for the Golden Eagles during the stretch. Freshmen Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) also scored twice in the first-half run.
 
The teams traded goals in the second half with Brockport able to maintain at least an 11-goal cushion for the remainder of the game.
 
In the second half, Brockport's six goals came from six different players as Karen Bianchi (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee), Piraino, Alyssa Case (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker), Erin Featherstone (Tully, NY/Tully), Katie Sullivan (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) and Lauren Hartman (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) each scored for the Golden Eagles. Allyson Wolf (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) added two assists in the second half for Brockport.
 
Junior Bree Galloway (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) made nine saves for Brockport.
