The College at Brockport Football team is getting some national attention after a perfect 3-0 start to the season as the D3football.com Top-25 poll released Sunday evening listed the Golden Eagles in the No. 17 position.

Brockport received 208 points from panel of 25 NCAA Division III coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country that is released weekly throughout the season.

“Anytime your team gets this type of national recognition it is great for the program,” said Head Coach Rocco Salomone. “That being said, it is still very early in the season and we have a very challenging conference schedule remaining.”

The Golden Eagles are 3-0 to start the season after wins at Lycoming (24-2), a 38-24 win over Buffalo State – currently No. 19 in the poll – and last weekend's 41-17 win over The College of New Jersey for a Brockport Homecoming victory.

Brockport is the top ranked team from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and is one of four schools in the rankings from the state of New York. The Golden Eagles are one of eight teams with 3-0 records in the poll and are the highest ranked team in this week's poll that was not ranked in the previous poll. Brockport was in the “Others receiving votes” section of last week's poll.

“It (the ranking) is a compliment to the players and coaching staff that has done what they needed to do in preseason and the first few weeks of the season in order for us to be playing at this level,” continued Salomone.

Senior quarterback Joe Scibilia (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) leads the high-powered offense that is one of the top ranked units in the country with over 1,000 passing yards and 10 touchdowns in just the first three games of the year. Sophomore Tyrone Nichols (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) is the top Golden Eagle runner averaging over 100 yards per game with three scores and a quartet of receivers lead the team as Andrew Mrozek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) has 13 catches for 256 yards, Jake Spalik (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) leads the team with 18 catches for 253 yards, Joseph Innes (Unadilla, NY/Unatego) has 11 receptions for 235 yards and Jordan Hogan (Lockport, NY/Lockport) has eight catches for 148 yards.

The Brockport defense is led by a number of players as well as Brett Evensen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville), Anthony Bianchi (Rochester, NY/Aquinas), Ross Ragonesi (East Northport, NY/Northport) and John O'Hagan (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) each have at least 20 tackles.
