The College at Brockport Women's Tennis team used five singles victories to rally past the Fredonia Blue Devils Friday night. The Golden Eagles defeated Fredonia 6-3 and earned the No. 2 seed in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament.
After dropping first and second doubles,
Lauren Bohman (Sayville, NY/Sayville) and
Nicole DeRose (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) took the third doubles match by the score of 8-4. The Golden Eagles then rattled off the first four singles victories to pull away in the SUNYAC matchup. The contest was played at Fredonia after being originally scheduled as a home match earlier in the year for the Golden Eagles.
Competing at first singles for the first time this year,
Rachel Lamont (Bloomfield, NY/Honeoye Falls) took the match in straight sets, 6-2 and 7-5.
Katelyn Richenberg (Stafford, NY/Batavia) dropped Jess Johnston 6-3, 6-3 in second singles.
Bohman and DeRose both won their singles matches to go along with the doubles victory from earlier in the night.
Amy Kurmis (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) took the victory in third singles.
The Golden Eagles improved their SUNYAC record to 2-1 on the year in their final conference contest. Brockport will take on Cortland tomorrow afternoon at Cortland for a nonconference matchup.
Following the victory over Fredonia, the Golden Eagles wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the West for the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament.
