John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) of The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team inched his way closer to 1,000 career points as the junior guard netted 22 points in a 83-73 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over Oneonta Friday night at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

Brockport used a big first half to establish an early lead over the Red Dragons. Oneonta brought the deficit to single digits in the final minute of play but the Golden Eagles held off the rally to improve to 6-5 in the SUNYAC and 11-7 overall. Ivy's 22 points led four scorers in double figures. Jordan Major (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) shot 4-6 from the floor and finished with 12 points while Mike Gallagher (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) and Lance Legister (Staten Island, NY/Millbrook School) scored 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the opening minutes of the game as Major opened up the contest with a three-point shot. The Golden Eagles built their lead to as many as 18 on four separate occasions in the first half, including a 28-10 advantage on a Brandon Caruthers (Rochester, NY/East) three at the 10:16 mark.

Brockport connected on seven three-pointers in the first half as the Golden Eagles went into halftime leading 45-30. Major finished the first half a perfect 4-4 from the floor and 2-2 from beyond the arc to score 10 points before intermission.

Ivy converted two three-point plays in the first two minutes as Brockport opened up the second half on a 9-0 run. Derek Klein (Valley Stream, NY/Long Island Lutheran) hit a jumper with 16:20 remaining to go up 21. The Golden Eagles held a consistent lead over the entire period. The Red Dragons fought back to bring the game within seven but Brockport's defense sealed the victory.

Ivy is now 31 points shy of reaching the 1,000 point plateau for his career. The junior has scored 341 points this season, already a career-best. His 18.9 points per game rank him fifth in the SUNYAC.

Brockport forced 18 turnovers on the night, the 12th time the team has reached that number this season. The Golden Eagles had just two free throw attempts in the first half but went to the line 25 times in the second half, sinking 25 of them. Six different players had at least four rebounds on the night as the Golden Eagles outrebounded Oneonta 37-35.

With the win Brockport maintains its fifth place position in the conference standings. The Golden Eagles are set to take on New Paltz tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium. The Hawks fell to Geneseo Friday night and are currently 4-6 in league play.
