Sophomores Amy Kurmis (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) and Natasha Hale (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) captured an 8-3 decision at No. 2 Doubles for The College at Brockport Tennis team but Cortland won the other two doubles matches and took three of the four singles matches to clinch the first round victory over the Golden Eagles at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament in Binghamton.
Junior Lauren Bohman (Sayville, NY/Sayville) and Kurmis were both involved in close singles matches that were not completed as Cortland won the minimum five matches to advance to the winner's bracket of the tournament.
Brockport falls into the consolation bracket and will face Oswego in the fifth place match at 5 pm Saturday. Cortland will face New Paltz in one semifinal while Geneseo will take on Oneonta in the other semifinal match. New Paltz, Oneonta and Geneseo all won 5-0 matches Friday to advance.
Junior Rachel Lamont (Bloomfield, NY/Honeoye) was the lone winner in singles for Brockport taking a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 5 singles. The singles victory was the team-leading sixth win of the season for Lamont.
