Junior Rachel Lamont (Bloomfield, NY/Honeoye) and freshman Sam Malak (Clinton, NY/Clinton) each scored a pair of wins leading The College at Brockport Tennis team to a fifth place finish at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament Saturday in Binghamton.
Lamont teamed with Lauren Bohman (Sayville, NY/Sayville) for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and then posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles for Brockport (6-6). Malak was partnered with Nicole DeRose (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles and then took a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. The duo accounted for four of the five Brockport wins needed to clinch the victory and the tie for fifth place in the final SUNYAC Tournament standings.
Natasha Hale (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Amy Kurmis (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) won an 8-3 decision at No. 2 doubles for the fifth Brockport victory.
Kurmis, Bohman and Elizabeth O'Rourke (Camden, NY/Camden) were all leading in singles matches when the overall match was called due to Brockport reaching the required five victories.
