The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team surrendered five fourth period goals to drop a nonconference matchup against St. John Fisher on Tuesday, falling 9-7 to the Cardinals.
Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored four goals on the day, one in each period.
Brockport (0-4) fell behind early as the Cardinals built a 3-1 lead in the first period. The Golden Eagles responded in the second period, scoring three of their own.
Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) scored his third goal of the season with 59 seconds remaining in the second to tie the game at four heading into overtime. Elliott's goal in the third period put Brockport up one as the Golden Eagle defense shutout the Cardinals through the first 15 minutes of the second half.
St. John Fisher (4-1) scored the first four goals to open the fourth period until
Bryon Palmer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) ended the scoreless draught for Brockport.
Keenan Sullivan (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) won a faceoff with under six minutes to play while Palmer worked his way to the cage and buried his second goal of the season to cut the deficit to two.
Elliott scored his fourth goal of the game at the 1:42 mark to bring Brockport within one. Less than a minute later, Brockport picked up two penalties, giving the Cardinals a two-man advantage. St. John Fisher benefited from the man-up opportunity and scored a goal six seconds later to regain a two-goal lead and steal a victory from the Golden Eagles.
Elliott's four goals give him a team-high eight on the season.
Steve Brissette (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) scored his second goal of the year, coming at the 12:36 mark of the second period. Brissette was also credited with a team-high four ground balls on the day. The Cardinals held a firm 42-28 ground ball advantage while also winning 15 of 19 faceoffs.
Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) recorded 11 saves in the loss.
