Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) pitched seven strong innings to earn her first career victory for The College at Brockport Softball team as the Golden Eagles defeated Wooster 6-1 in their first game of the day Sunday. Brockport fell to NYU Polytechnic in the second game of the doubleheader 8-0. The Golden Eagles are now 2-2 on their spring training trip in Lee County, FL.

Berger, making her second start of the season, kept Wooster off the scoreboard until the fourth inning as the Golden Eagles had already built a 5-0 lead through the first three frames. The freshman allowed six hits and struck out 10 batters while allowing just one walk. Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) provided the big hit of the day as the speedster tripled to left center scoring Amanda Yuhas (Hamburg, NY/Eden) to put Brockport up 2-0 in the second.

Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) collected the only two hits for the Golden Eagles in game two as the Brockport offense sputtered in the nightcap for the second straight day. The Blue Jays put up six runs in the second inning and tacked on two more in the fourth to take the victory.

Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) gave Brockport the early lead in game one, doubling to left center to score Rana who reached on a single. Brockport built its lead to 5-0 in the top of the third as Jenna Yates (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) put the ball in play, reaching on an error to score Rosenbarker. Yuhas picked up her second hit of the day to score Erika Lazzaro (Oswego, NY/Oswego).

Wooster got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth but Berger was able to keep the Fighting Scots off balance for the remainder of the game, allowing just three base runners over the final three innings. Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) singled up the middle in the seventh to score Yates for the games' final run.

Ferchen, Rana, Lazzaro, and Yuhas all collected two hits in the first game as the Golden Eagles pounded out 13 base knocks. Nine different players had at least one hit in the victory.

Game two was a different story for the Golden Eagles as the offense stalled. Rana picked up a hit in the first and fourth innings, but that was all the damage the team could do. The Blue Jays scored three unearned runs in their six-run third inning. Erin Fleming (Friendship, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) took the loss in game two.

Through two days of doubleheaders, the Golden Eagles have scored 19 runs in the first game of the day but have scored just one run in the second games.

Day three of Brockport's spring training trip will pair the Golden Eagles with North Central at 11:00 am tomorrow followed by a matchup with Worcester State at 1:00 pm.
