Box Score
The College at Brockport Softball team dropped a 3-2 contest to North Central College on Monday afternoon as the Golden Eagles fall to 2-3 on their spring training trip in Lee County, FL. Erika Lazzarro (Oswego, NY/Oswego) picked up two of the team's three hits on the day.
Lazzaro provided the game's first run with an RBI single in the second, but the Cardinals (6-0) scored a run in the second, third, and fifth innings to build a 3-1 lead. The Golden Eagles threatened in the sixth inning, scoring one run but left a runner stranded in scoring position to come up short.
Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) got her third start of the season, pitching 5.2 innings before leaving with an injury to her non-throwing hand. Berger allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out three.
After a scoreless first inning by both sides, Lazzarro came to bat with two runners in scoring position in the second. The sophomore singled to right centerfield with one out to score
Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) and put the Golden Eagles on the board.
Amanda Yuhas (Hamburg, NY/Ede) was stranded on third base after singling earlier in the inning.
North Central responded with a run in the bottom of the second and took a 2-1 lead in the third on a double steal. The Cardinals built their lead to two in the bottom of the fifth on a double to left centerfield.
Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ball Lake), who was the only Golden Eagle other than Lazzarro to record a hit, scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to cut the deficit in half.
Paige Monachino (East Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute), who was inserted as a pinch runner, was left on third base to finish off the inning. Brockport failed to get a base runner in the seventh as the Cardinals kept their record unblemished.
Brockport was scheduled for a doubleheader on the day, but its second game against Worcester State was cancelled due to a severe thunderstorm in the Cape Coral area.
The Golden Eagles are off tomorrow but return to action with a pair of games against Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Smith College on March 20.
