The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team dropped its season-opener to Alfred University on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-6 to the Saxons. Six different Golden Eagles found the back of the net in the loss on Saturday.

Alfred opened up the game with the first score, tallying a goal 7:37 into the first period. Bryon Palmer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) scored his first goal of the season to tie the game up at one with under six to play in the first period. The Saxons answered right back with their second goal 1:16 after Brockport's score.

Alfred went up 3-1 with a goal just 1:44 into the second period but Nick Ciampi (Jordan, NY/C.W. Baker) scored his first career goal as a Golden Eagle seconds later to bring the game to within one. Keenan Sullivan (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) won the ensuing faceoff and Ciampi found the back of the net.

With just over two minutes left in the period Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) found a streaking Kevin Conlon (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) to tie the game at three. The tie was brief as Alfred answered back 1:10 later to go up 4-2 heading into the third period.

The Saxons built a two-goal lead with two consecutive scores in the third period to go up 6-3. Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), Brockport's leading scorer from a year ago, scored his first goal of the game on an assist from Palmer to bring the Golden Eagles within two.

Alfred held its two goal lead until Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity-Pawling) assisted to brother Riley with under six minutes left in the fourth on a man-up advantage to bring the game within one. Alfred responded just over a minute later to regain a two-goal advantage. Steve Brissette (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) tallied his first goal to spark the Brockport offense, but the Saxons' defense held off the Golden Eagles for the final 1:40 to secure the win.

Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) made four saves in the loss.

Brockport returns to action with a road contest at RIT on March 6. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
