The College at Brockport Softball team dropped a pair of games in Cape Coral, FL on Wednesday, falling to Wisconsin-Oshkosh 4-0 in game one and Smith College 8-4 in the nightcap. The Golden Eagles are now 2-5 on their spring training trip.
Erika Lazzarro (Oswego, NY/Oswego) hit a two-run home run in game two to spark the offense late, but the Golden Eagles came up short against the Pioneers.
Korey Kibling (Lafayette, NY/Bishop Ludden) pitched a complete game five-hitter against Wisconsin-Oshkosh, but the Brockport offense failed to collect a hit against the Titans.
Brockport failed to reach base through the first four innings of play in game one.
Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) reached on a fielding error in the top of the fifth but was unable to advance.
Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was hit by a pitch in the top of the seventh for Brockport's only other base runner in the game. Dumas has now reached base in 54 consecutive games dating back to the 2011 season.
Kibling pitched all six innings for the Golden Eagles, striking out four batters.
The Titans put two runs on the board in the top of the first of game two and tacked on four more in the second inning to build an early 6-0 lead.
Paige Monachino (East Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute), inserted as a pinch runner, scored Brockport's first run in the fourth.
Lazzarro's home run cut Brockport's deficit to four in the fifth, driving in
Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) on the drive. Dumas scored Lazzarro in the seventh inning with two outs, but Brockport's rally fell short.
Jordan Bush (Redwood, NY/Alexandria) pitched four innings of relief work, allowing just one earned run on three hits and one walk.
The Golden Eagles take on Wisconsin-Superior and Hamilton College tomorrow morning for a nonconference doubleheader. Games are set for 9:00 am and 11:00 am.
