The College at Brockport Softball team snapped a five-game losing streak as the Golden Eagles defeated Hamilton College 8-4 in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. Brockport fell to Wisconsin-Superior 5-3 in the first game of the day.

Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) posted her best game of the spring training trip as the junior collected three hits and drove in two runs against Hamilton. Erika Lazzarro (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) recorded two-hit games for the Golden Eagles as Brockport improved to 3-6 with the win.

Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) struck out nine batters in the first game as Brockport surrendered three runs in the top of the seventh to drop the decision against Wisconsin-Superior. Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) went 2-3 against the Yellowjackets.

Hamilton built an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Golden Eagles' offense came alive. Brockport plated five runners in the bottom half of the inning to take control. Dumas drove in Jenna Yates (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) for Brockport's first run and after taking a 3-2 lead, Jennifer Knox (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) singled to right field with the bases loaded to drive in both Dumas and Arnold.

The Continentals made things interesting with a run in the fourth and one in the sixth to cut Brockport's lead to one. Lazzarro, Brockport's leading power hitter throughout the spring training trip came through with a double to left center, scoring Yates and Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). With two outs, Dumas collected her third hit of the day with a single up the middle to score Lazzarro.

Freshman hurler Korey Kibling (Lafayette, NY/Bishop Ludden) kept the damage to a minimum in the seventh inning to secure the victory for the Golden Eagles. Kibling improved to 2-1 in the circle as the rookie scattered 10 hits while striking out six batters and not allowing a walk.

Brockport held a 2-1 lead through the first four innings of play against Wisconsin-Superior in game one. Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) picked up an RBI in the first inning, scoring Ferchen on a groundout. Lazzarro displayed her power in the fourth inning, hitting her second home run in as many days with a shot to left centerfield to put Brockport up 2-1.

The Yellowjackets tied the game in the sixth and scored three runs thanks to two extra base hits in the seventh inning. Yates hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom half to score Brianna Harris (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) but the Golden Eagles left two runners on base to end the game.

Brockport will wrap up its spring training trip in Cape Coral, FL tomorrow with a pair of games against UMass Dartmouth at 9:00 am and Worcester State at 11:00 am before returning back home.
