Brockport Rally Falls Short Against Adrian

The Golden Eagles score five goals in the third period but fall 9-7 at Adrian

The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team staged a second half comeback but fell just short against the Adrian Bulldogs, dropping a 9-7 decision on the road on Saturday afternoon.. Brockport falls to 2-5 on the year.

Trailing 6-1 at halftime, the Golden Eagles scored five goals in the third quarter to cut Adrian's deficit to one, 7-6, heading into in to the final quarter. The Bulldogs netted a goal to open the fourth quarter before Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored his third goal of the game to bring Brockport back within one with just over five minutes to play. The Bulldogs held Brockport scoreless for the remainder of the game and scored an insurance goal with 57 seconds left to secure the win.

Elliott's three goals give him a team-high of 16 on the year. The senior has scored at least three goals in a game on four separate occasions this year.

Adrian jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Golden Eagles before Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) scored his ninth goal of the year with 27 seconds left in the first period to put Brockport on the board. The goal was the only scoring Brockport managed in the first half as the Bulldogs scored three goals in a span of 2:18 in the second quarter to take a five goal advantage into the locker room.

Brockport's rally began with Elliott's first goal of the day at the 13:31 mark of the third quarter on an assist from Austin. After a seventh Adrian goal, Austin sparked a 4-0 Brockport run in the third. The junior captain scored a man-up goal with under 10 minutes to play on an assist from Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity-Pawling). Two minutes later Steve Brissette (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) found Sean McCaffrey for his sixth goal of the year. The goal came with eight seconds remaining on a man-up opportunity.

Elliott put Brockport within two after scoring his second goal on an assist from Alex Austin just 28 seconds after McCaffrey's goal. Brockport stayed on the offensive as Elliott found Alex Austin for a goal at the 4:26 mark, cutting Adrian's lead to one.

The high-scoring third quarter proved to be all the offense for Brockport as the Golden Eagles rally bid fell short in the closing quarter.

Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) stopped seven shots on the day, two in each of the final three periods.

Keenan Sullivan (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) continued to excel on the faceoff for Brockport as the junior specialist won 18 of 20 faceoffs on the day.

Brockport opens up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play with a home game against Oswego on March 30 at 1:00 pm.
