Senior Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored three goals for The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team including one early in the third quarter that tied the score at 4-4 but the Golden Eagles were held scoreless the remainder of the game and dropped a 5-4 decision Saturday afternoon to Clarkson University in Potsdam.
Brockport (0-3) played catch up all afternoon as Clarkson (2-1) held one-goal leads of 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3 with Brockport coming back to tie the score each time.
After Clarkson opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, senior Tim Cook (Fairport, NY/Fairport) knotted the score at 1-1 four minutes later and the score remained tied through the remainder of the first 15-minute period.
In the second quarter, Clarkson regained the lead 1:09 into the period but 3:20 later Elliott scored his first goal of the game taking a run from 15 yards out and scoring on a sidearm shot from seven yards away directly in front of the Knights goal.
Clarkson answered a minute later but Elliott scored his second of the game at the 7:24 mark taking a pass from Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) from behind the cage and scored in the lower corner of the goal.
With less than three minutes to play in the first half, Clarkson scored a man-up goal to take a 4-3 lead into the halftime intermission.
Brockport opened the second half with Keenan Sullivan (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) winning the faceoff and racing into the offensive zone. The Golden Eagles moved the ball around the perimeter before Elliott took a pass from Austin again from behind the cage and scored to tie the score at 4-4 early in the third quarter.
With six minutes remaining in the quarter, Clarkson scored a second man-up goal to regain the lead. Brockport had several scoring chances in the third quarter with an 11-2 shots advantage but were limited to just three shots over the final 15 minutes of the contest.
Brockport won 8-of-13 face offs and Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) made eight saves for the Golden Eagles.
