The College at Brockport softball team swept the previously undefeated and first place New Paltz Hawks on Saturday afternoon, winning by scores of 3-2 and 4-0. Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) and Korey Kibling (LaFayette, NY/Bishop Ludden) each pitched complete games to earn the victories for the Golden Eagles.

With the two wins, Brockport improves to 7-1 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) while the Hawks fall to 8-2. The two teams sit 1-2 in the conference standings. Geneseo currently sits in third with a 5-3 record.

The 7-1 start in conference play is the best start for the Golden Eagles since the 2009 team opened up the year 9-1.

Berger allowed a run in the bottom of the first inning but the Golden Eagles' offense rallied for two runs in the top of the second thanks to an Erika Lazzaro (Oswego, NY/Oswego) single. The sophomore drove in Emily Kolenda (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and Brianna Harris (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) to pick up her team-leading 10th and 11th RBI of the year.

The Hawks tied the game up in the fourth, but Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) provided the biggest hit of the day, homering to right center field to give Brockport the final lead change of the game. Berger prevailed over the final three innings to pick up her fifth win of the year.

The freshman hurler improved her record to 5-3 and has allowed just four earned runs over her last seven appearances.

Kibling needed little offensive support in game two as the freshman allowed just three hits in the game two victory. Kibling allowed just one walk and was able to keep the ball down in the zone, issuing 16 ground outs on the day. The complete game shutout is the first of the rookie's career.

The offensive production came from a multitude of players on the day as Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) opened up the scoring in the third inning. The junior singled to right field to score Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake). On the next at bat Rosenbarker laid down a bunt and Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) used her speed to beat out the play at the plate and put Brockport up 2-0.

Ferchen provided the third run of the day with a single to left centerfield, scoring Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) in the fourth. Rana gave the Golden Eagles a 4-0 lead in the sixth with a single up the middle, scoring Harris.

Rana finished the day with four hits while Ferchen collected three in the two games. Ferchen currently leads the team with a .384 batting average while Rana holds a .340 mark.

The Golden Eagles resume SUNYAC play tomorrow with a doubleheader against Oneonta. The two teams are set to play after the original doubleheader was postponed on Friday afternoon. Game one is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
