The College at Brockport softball team managed just four hits in two games as the Golden Eagles were swept by the visiting St. John Fisher Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon, falling in the opener 2-1 in eight innings and dropping the nightcap 3-0. Freshman pitcher Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) struck out a career high 12 batters in the game one loss.

Brockport was given a tough task as the Golden Eagles drew Cardinals' ace Sarah Stefanon who entered the day with 117 strikeouts in 74 innings of work. Brianna Harris (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) collected Brockport's lone hit in game one, a third inning single. Harris put the Golden Eagles up 1-0 after stealing second base and scoring on an errant throw from the catcher. The Cardinals rallied in the seventh on a home run and scored the game winning run in the extra frame on another home run.

Stefanon returned to the circle in game two and continued to keep the Brockport batters off balance, striking out 10 batters after her 16 strikeout performance in game one. Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell), Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), and Emily Kolenda (Oswego, NY/Oswego) recorded the only hits of the game for the Golden Eagles.

Berger battled in the game one pitcher's duel. The freshman struck out five batters in the first two innings of play. Berger scattered five hits and allowed the two earned runs late in the contest. The freshman walked just two batters on the day and has now struck out almost twice as many batters as she has walked this year.

Korey Kibling (LaFayette, NY/Bishop Ludden) pitched five innings in game two and allowed two earned runs on seven hits in the loss. Kolenda closed out the game, tossing the final two innings.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Buffalo State for a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader on Friday at 3:00 pm.
