Susanna Johnson (Edmeston, NY/Edmeston) helped The College at Brockport softball team rally with a fifth inning home run and delivered the game-winning RBI in a nine inning thriller as the Golden Eagles defeated Fredonia State 4-3 in game one. Freshman Korey Kibling (LaFayette, NY/Bishop Ludden) completed the sweep, tossing a complete game in the 4-1 victory.

With the two victories the Golden Eagles improve their conference record to 12-2 and move into sole possession of first place in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). The Golden Eagles, 18-11 overall, sit one full game ahead of the 11-3 Cortland Red Dragons. The two teams will meet on Friday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Complex.

Brockport and the Blue Devils needed multiple extra innings to decide game one. Fredonia (7-19, 3-10) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Golden Eagles tied things up as Paige Monachino (East Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) scored on a bases loaded hit by pitch from Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). Both teams traded runs again as Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), a former Blue Devil, tied things up at two with a bases loaded walk in the third.

Fredonia responded immediately, taking a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the inning. The Blue Devils held the lead until Johnson delivered her first career home run over the left field wall to tie the game once again.

Both teams left a runner on base over the next two frames as the game entered extra innings. Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich), pitching in her second extra inning game in her last three starts struck out all three batters in the eighth to set the stage for Johnson in the ninth. Jenna Yates (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) walked to lead off the inning and with two outs advanced to second on a wild pitch. On a 2-1 count Johnson slapped a double down the right field line to give Brockport its first lead of the game. Berger kept the ball in the infield on all three batters in the final frame to secure the win.

Johnson finished the game with three hits while Rana and Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) collected two hits apiece. Berger, who struck out a career-high 12 batters last week against St. John Fisher eclipsed her mark against the Blue Devils, striking out 13 on the day. The freshman allowed just five hits compared to Brockport's 10 knocks.

Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) was given the hot bat in game two as the junior collected two hits, including an RBI single and a home run. Rosenbarker teamed up with Dumas to connect on back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning. Brianna Ferchen (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) scored twice on the day, crossing the plate on Rosenbarker's single and Dumas' home run.

Kibling provided her second straight complete game win as the freshman improved to 8-3 on the year. Kibling scattered eight hits and allowed just one unearned run on the day while striking out four Blue Devils. With the zero earned runs on the day, Kibling took over the SUNYAC with the lowest earned run average at 1.71 while Berger's mark of 1.88 ranks third.

Prior to Brockport's showdown with Cortland on Friday, the Golden Eagles will travel to Rochester for a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm.
