The College at Brockport softball team dropped a pair of nonconference road games on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the University of Rochester 10-2 in game one and dropping the nightcap 6-2.
Susanna Johnson (Edmeston, NY/Edmeston) had her second consecutive solid performance at the plate, collecting three hits on the day to pace Brockport.
The Golden Eagles (18-13) threatened early against Rochester in game one, stranding three runners in the first three innings. Trailing 2-0 in the third,
Caitlyn Rana (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was thrown out at home trying to score from third on a passed ball. The Yellowjackets pulled away in the bottom half of the inning, collecting six runs off of Brockport starter
Emily Kolenda (Oswego, NY/Oswego).
The Golden Eagles got on the board in the fourth after
Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) scored on a bases loaded throwing error.
Jennifer Knox (Rennsselaer, NY/Columbia) scored Brockport's only other run on a passed ball in the top of the sixth.
Johnson finished the game 2-3 at the plate while
Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and
Kayla Ladd (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) each had doubles.
The Golden Eagles kept things interesting in the early innings of game two. Dumas connected on her third home run of the year to score Rana for Brockport's first runs of the game, cutting Rochester's lead to one. The Yellowjackets delivered a two run home run in the bottom of the frame to build a 5-2 lead and tacked on one more run in the sixth for the four run victory.
Johnson went 1-3 in game two to extend her hitting streak to five games. The junior has now collected eight hits in her last 16 plate appearances to boost her batting average to .310 on the year.
The Golden Eagles will take on State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent Cortland for a critical conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Complex. Brockport, currently in first place in the league leads Cortland by one game in the standings. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm.
