Tim Cook Scores Overtime Winner for Brockport

Golden Eagles score key win on the road over Geneseo

Brockport celebrates after Tim Cook scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Geneseo
Box Score

Senior Tim Cook (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored a career-high three goals including the game-winner 1:58 into the overtime period leading The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team to a 6-5 victory over Geneseo in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Wednesday afternoon on Merritt Field in Geneseo.

Junior Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) scored twice in the fourth quarter including the game-tying goal with just one second remaining in regulation to force the overtime period. With time running out in regulation, Brockport (5-8 Overall, 2-3 SUNYAC) rushed the goal and after a battle for a loose ball in front of the Geneseo (5-7, 2-3), Austin was able to gather in the loose ball and fire a quick shot into the back of the net for the 5-5 tie and just one second on the clock.

Geneseo was assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty as time expired giving Brockport possession of the ball to start the four-minute overtime period.

Brockport's Sean McCaffrey (Manlius, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) fired a shot on goal 25 seconds into the overtime that was saved but the Knights turned the ball over during the clear attempt and the Golden Eagles returned to the offensive end of the field. Bryon Palmer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) fired another Brockport shot that was stopped by Geneseo goalie Ryan Zaremba.

Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) picked up the ground ball and moved behind the cage to reset the offense. Cook broke free from his defender and Elliott fed him the ball in front of the Geneseo goal and Cook's shot found the back of the net ending the game with the 6-5 Brockport win.

Cook opened the game with the first of three goals on the day 1:09 into the contest. Midway through the first quarter, Zach Malecki (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) scored to give Brockport a 2-0 lead.

Geneseo answered with a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the period and the game was tied at 2-2 after one quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Cook scored again as Brockport regained the lead 1:15 into the period.

The Knights scored with just six seconds left in the first half as the teams headed into the break tied at 3-3.

Geneseo scored the only goal of the third quarter and took a two-goal lead with a man-up goal at the 11-minute mark of the fourth quarter. Just over two minutes later, Austin score the first of his two fourth-quarter goals to bring the Golden Eagles to within a goal at 5-4.

Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) made nine saves, including four in the third quarter, in the Brockport goal to secure the win.
