2013 SUNYAC Softball Bracket

For the first time since the 1997 season, The College at Brockport softball team will host the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament. The Golden Eagles clinched the regular season title and the top overall seed after finishing the 2013 season with a 15-3 league record.

Brockport earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament after going 5-1 against conference foes in the final week of the season, including a sweep of second place and No. 2 seed Cortland. The Golden Eagles swept Fredonia on Monday before taking two from the Red Dragons on Friday and splitting a pair with Oswego on Saturday.

The tournament will begin on Thursday morning with Brockport hosting No. 6 seed Oswego in the opening game at 9:00 am at the Clark V. Whited Complex. Cortland will take on No. 5 seed New Paltz at 11:00 am followed by No. 3 seed Plattsburgh taking on No. 4 seed Geneseo. The tournament will run through the weekend with potentially four games on Friday, two on Saturday and if necessary, one game on Sunday.

Ticket prices for the tournament will be sold at the main entrance of the Clark V. Whited Complex. Tickets are six dollars for adults and three dollars for children 12 and under. Children under the age of five are free. SUNY students with proper school identification will also be admitted free of charge. A weekend pass which will be good for all games throughout the tournament will be available as well for 10 dollars per person.

Brockport will be hosting the tournament for the first time since 1997, the same year of the Golden Eagles last SUNYAC Championship. The 15 league wins this year are the most since the 2009 season.

The Golden Eagles have been led by a solid freshman pitching staff and a veteran offense this season. Rookie hurlers Korey Kibling (LaFayette, NY/Bishop Ludden) and Jaime Berger (Norwich, NY/Norwich) rank second and fourth in the SUNYAC conference, respectively, in individual ERA. The tandem has contributed 18 wins while combining for a 2.18 earned run average. Berger's 101 strikeouts rank second in the league.

Five different players are currently batting over .300 on the year, led by Julie Arnold (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Brockport's primary catcher. The junior leads the Golden Eagles with a .338 mark, followed by juniors Susanna Johnson (Edmeston, NY/Edmeston) at .333 and Emily Dumas (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool). Dumas leads the Golden Eagles with a .527 slugging percentage. Sarah Rosenbarker (Endicott, NY/Maine-Endwell) has a team-high five home runs with a .313 batting average and is tied with Dumas for the team lead with 18 RBI.
