Seniors Lead Brockport in First Round Victory

Senior Sarah Brown (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) scored four goals and handed out three assists for seven points while Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) scored four times leading The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team to a 14-10 victory over Oneonta Tuesday in the first round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament in Brockport.

The Golden Eagles (12-5) advanced to the tournament semifinals and will face top-seeded Cortland Friday at 12:30 pm in Cortland. The other semifinal will feature Geneseo vs. Fredonia at 3:00 pm.

Brockport fell behind 2-1 in the opening 12 minutes of the game but rattled off four straight goals with Brown and Maguire each scoring once as the Golden Eagles took a 4-2 lead. The Red Dragons (9-9) trimmed the lead with another goal at the 13:06 mark before Brockport scored three more times with Brown and Maguire each adding one more goal for an 8-3 Brockport lead.

Oneonta scored twice in the last three minutes of the first half to cut the Brockport lead to 8-5 at the halftime intermission.

In the second half, Maguire scored 3:12 into the period but Oneonta changed the momentum of the game scoring five goals over the next 12 minutes to forge ahead 10-9.

Brown took charge on the ensuing possession scoring her fourth goal of the game and sparking a Brockport rally as the Golden Eagles rattled off the last five goals of the game for the 14-10 win.

Maguire and Brown each scored four times while Katie Sullivan (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) and Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) added two goals each for the Golden Eagles. Ciara McKeon (Westhampton, NY/Westhampton Beach) and Makensie Schuber (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) each scored once.
