Sarah Brown (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) had seven assists, Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) and Ciara McKeon (Westhampton, NY/Westhampton Beach) each scored three goals leading The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team to a convincing 21-5 victory over Potsdam Saturday in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game in Potsdam.
In the first 20 minutes of the game, Brockport (8-2 Overall, 3-0 SUNYAC) jumped out to a 9-0 lead and scored four more in the final four minutes of the opening half to take a 13-1 lead into the halftime intermission.
McKeon and Zartman each scored twice in the first five Brockport goals and Brown was the play maker on three of the four goals as the Golden Eagles took control of the game early.
Makensie Schuber (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scored consecutive goals just past the midpoint of the half to give Brockport the 9-0 lead. Liz Algie (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) and Erin Featherstone (Tully, NY/Tully) added goals in the early run and Zartman also scored her third of the game.
After Potsdam (3-4, 1-1) scored to stop the streak at the 8:45 mark of the half, Brockport added four more goals for the 13-1 halftime advantage. Hailey Boronczyk (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran), Allyson Wolf (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) and Katie Sullivan (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) all scored one and Featherstone added her second goal of the half in the late run.
In the second half, Potsdam score the first three goals to trim the lead to 13-4 before Brockport responded with three goals – two by Ayssa Scordo (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) and one by Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) – for a 16-4 lead.
Potsdam scored its final goal with 12:55 left in the second half and Brockport added five more goals with McKeon scoring her third of the day followed by Nina Tassone (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Lauren Hartman (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) each scoring. Sullivan added her second goal of the game before freshman Clare Quinn (Brewster, NY/Brewster) scored her first career goal to round out the Brockport attack.
