Senior Sarah Brown (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) scored three goals and handed out four assists as The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team built an 11-9 lead late but Cortland came back with two goals in the closing minutes of the second half and the only goal in the overtime period to post a 12-11 victory Tuesday in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game in Brockport.
Cortland (10-1 overall, 4-0 SUNYAC), ranked No. 4 in the latest IWLCA National Poll, built an early 5-1 lead but Erin Featherstone (Tully, NY/Tully), Makensie Schuber (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), Emily Zartman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) and Allyson Wolf (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) each scored goals to end the half and Brockport (8-3, 3-1) went into the halftime intermission with a 5-5 tie.
In the second half, the Red Dragons scored three of the first four goals to rebuild a lead before Brown sparked another Brockport comeback. The senior scored twice over the next five minutes and assisted on a goal by Zartman giving Brockport a 10-9 lead with less than five minutes left in regulation time.
Zartman added another goal less than a minute later to extend the Golden Eagles lead to 11-9 with 4:05 remaining.
Cortland scored with three minutes left and tied the score with 45 seconds left in the second half sending the contest into overtime.
The Red Dragons took the 12-11 lead 1:11 into the overtime period and held on for the win as goalie Liz Ingalls made two key saves including one on a free position shot for Brockport.
Zartman finished with four goals for Brockport.
