The College at Brockport women's volleyball team lost on the road at Nazareth 3-0. The Golden Flyers defeated the Golden Eagles by 25-14, 25-20 and 25-19.

Despite falling in all three games, Brockport continued to battle throughout the night.

In game one, the Brockport (2-4) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with two strong kills from Hannalee Fordyce (Amityville, NY/Copiague) and Brittany Brace (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown). Nazareth (7-2) answered back with four straight points of its own to take the lead. The Golden Eagles were not able to regain the lead and Nazareth continued to serve up hard hits to seal the first win.

The Golden Eagles started out game two down, but a kill from Kelsey Baker (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) and a Nazareth cut the Golden Flyer lead to one. Nazareth continued to pound the ball, but Brockport fought to keep the game close. With back-to-back points from Amanda Riebe (Pleasant Valley, NY/Millbrook), Brockport was able to cut the lead to one again. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles could not keep possession of the ball and gain control long enough for the win.

Head Coach Steve Pike thought that Riebe and Fordydce looked good in the second set and gave the Golden Eagles more opportunities on offense.

Heading into the final game of the night, Brockport continued to push for a comeback. The Golden Flyers got onto the board first, but Brockport answered right back. After a few back-and-forth volleys, Nazareth gained a four point lead. Once again, the Golden Eagles were able to keep things exciting, but were not able to take the lead and secure a win.

"Kelsey Baker did some good things today," said Coach Pike. "Her aggressiveness was something that we needed and will look to get more of."

Riebe paced the Golden Eagle offense with eight kills. Jessica Greiner (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) finished the night with 19 assists and seven digs, while Mary Cocking (Brockport, NY/Byron-Bergen) played strong against a skilled serving team, recording 10 digs.

"I thought we competed all the way until the end," said Coach Pike. "Unfortunately, Nazareth was just the better team today. Our effort was good, we just need to continue to improve on our execution and finishing."

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday for the RIT Invitational hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology. Brockport takes on RIT at 3:00 pm and then Medaille at 5:00 pm.
