Tennis Drops Match Against Oneonta

The Golden Eagles fell to the Red Dragons 6-3

Nicole DeRose won her doubles match with Sam Malak
The College at Brockport women's tennis team fell to Oneonta 6-3 in a SUNYAC conference matchup on Friday afternoon.

Due to another day of rain, the match was moved indoors.

The Red Dragons took a quick lead, winning the first two doubles matches of the day. Nicole DeRose (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Sam Malak (Clinton, NY/Clinton) scored the first points for Brockport with a commanding 8-1 victory.

Oneonta opened up strong in singles as well. The Red Dragons won the first four matchups. Lauren Bohman (Sayville, NY/Sayville) played a tough match and Head Coach Ben Klempka felt that she played very well despite the defeat. Bohman was defeated in two sets 6-4 and 6-4.

Brockport recorded victories in the final two matches of the day. Rachel Lamont (Bloomfield, NY/Honeoye) earned the first singles win for the Golden Eagles. She beat her opponent 7-6 and 6-2. The final match of the evening saw Elizabeth O'Rourke (Camden, NY/Camden) go into a three set tie breaker. O'Rourke came out on top after falling 3-6 in the first set. O'Rourke then went on to win 6-4 and 10-8.

Even with the strong finish, the Golden Eagles could not come back for the overall win.

Brockport returns to action for another home SUNYAC conference game against New Paltz at 1:00 pm.
