Sophomores Sam Malak (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and Elizabeth O'Rourke (Camden, NY/Camden) each won a pair of matches Saturday in a 5-0 victory over Fredonia as The College at Brockport Tennis team wrapped up the 2014 season with a fifth-place finish at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament over the weekend in Binghamton.
Brockport (7-5) dropped its opening match of the tournament with a 5-0 loss to Oneonta Friday night but bounced back early Saturday morning to post the 5-0 victory over Fredonia in the consolation bracket of the tournament.
Against Fredonia, Malak teamed with senior Meghan Storie (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) to a tight 9-8 (7-3 super tiebreaker) victory at No. 2 doubles while O'Rourke and teammate Natasha Hale (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) won an 8-2 decision at No. 3 doubles to give Brockport the early lead.
The No. 1 doubles team of seniors Rachel Lamont (Bloomfield, NY/Honeoye) and Lauren Bohman (Sayville, NY/Sayville) also won posting a 9-7 decision.
In singles play, Malak won a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 4 and O'Rourke posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 to clinch the victory for the Golden Eagles. Lamont, Bohman and Hale were all winning their singles matches when the 5-0 decision had been reached ending play.
