Box Score Senior goalkeeper Max Drexler (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) got the start and the win for The College at Brockport Men's Soccer team Saturday afternoon at Bob Boozer Field in front of his parents on senior day in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game against Oswego.
On the overcast and rainy day, Brockport (8-2-5, 3-2-2 SUNYAC) beat Oswego (4-9-2, 3-4-1 SUNYAC) by a score of 4-1. The Golden Eagles applied the pressure early and often but the Lakers nearly struck with the first goal. Drexler punched a crossing pass out of the box to an unmarked Laker who blasted a shot that was blocked by sophomore Mark Sylvia (Northville, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) helping the Golden Eagles preserve the scoreless game.
Brockport broke the 0-0 tie during the 14th minute of play when Collin Goettel (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) rocketed a direct kick past a wall of three Laker defenders from 20-yards out into the back of the net.
During the 26-minute mark junior Matthew Roorda (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) drove a looping pass over the heads of several defenders from 35-yards out and connected with the head of a hard charging junior Peter DiLorenzo (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) for the 2-0 lead.
Less than one minute later, Brockport added another goal on the conversion of the penalty kick by junior Patrick Sprague (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport). The penalty kick was awarded after DiLorenzo took a ball deep into the Oswego box against multiple Laker defenders before being tripped up.
Midway through the second half Oswego tacked on their only goal of the game, making the score 3-1.
With 15 minutes remaining in regulation, DiLorenzo tapped a loose open field ball past a Laker defender. With another defender quickly approaching the loose ball, DiLorenzo tapped it again around him. DiLorenzo then gained control of the ball and sent a low lying kick past the attacking Oswego goalkeeper from 10-yards out and the final score of the 4-1 game.
Drexler finished with three saves in his second win of the year for Brockport. DiLorenzo and Goettel broke their shared lead for points on the season after DiLorenzo's two goals. On the season DiLorenzo has 10 goals and 22 points, while Goettel has seven goals and 20 points.
