Box Score

Junior midfielder Patrick Sprague (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) nearly gave The College at Brockport the game-winning kick with a minute left to play in double overtime as he drove past a defender and drilled a shot on net Friday afternoon in Potsdam. The Bears goalie made the save and the Golden Eagles were left to settle with the 2-2 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tie.

Freshman Chris Aherne (Stoney Point, NY/North Rockland) came up big for Brockport (8-2-6, 3-2-3 SUNYAC) in several crucial moments. Aherne gave Brockport the lead within the first 10 minutes of the game when he headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Sprague.

Potsdam quickly answered with a goal of its own during the 12th minute of play and took the 2-1 lead with a goal in the 30-minute mark.

The Golden Eagles offense came out strong in the second half applying lots of pressure. The pressure paid off in the 53rd minute of action on a throw in from sophomore David LaPietra (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) as junior Peter DiLorenzo (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) got a piece of the throw-in with his head before Aherne flew in to send the ricochet past the goalie with a header of his own.

Brockport continued to apply the pressure throughout the second half and in both overtimes, outshooting Potsdam 21-14 in the game. With 17 minutes remaining in the second half Lapietra beat a defender with a ball to Potsdam's corner and sent a crossing pass towards the net. DiLorenzo went up for the ball and collided with the Potsdam goalie sending both the goalie and the ball into the net. The call on the field was a no goal.

Senior goalkeeper Max Drexler (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) got his third start of the season and finished with a single save, on a Potsdam breakaway. Drexler made the big save in the 67th-minute, as he was all that stood between a Bears lead.
