Juniors Asher Kramer (Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern) and Jeff Palmeri (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) each placed second for The College at Brockport Wrestling team leading the Golden Eagles to a fourth place team finish at the New Standard Corporation Tournament Saturday at York College in Pennsylvania.
Brockport took fourth as a team with 103 points. Delaware Valle College, ranked #4 in the country, was the team champion with 128.5 points followed by Ithaca College (ranked #12) in second (120 points) and host York College (ranked #18) (115 points).
Brockport, ranked #29 in the latest national rankings was fourth and finished ahead of Coast Guard (100.5), Johnson & Wales (97.5), Williams College (57.5), Cortland (55.5), The College of NJ (45.5), Elizabethtown College (42.5), Ferrum (39.5), Merchant Marine Academy (35.5), Johns Hopkins (28) and Apprentice School (23.0).
Kramer and Palmeri each finished second while Sean O'Hagan (Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) was fourth at 141 pounds, Jordan Dyer (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) was third at 149 pounds, Michael Falcon (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) was fifth at 165 pounds and Cole Tristram (Newton Falls, NY/Clifton-Fine) took fifth in the 285-pound bracket.
Kramer won his first match with a 21-8 major decision before posting a 4-1 victory to advance to the semifinal round. A 13-6 decision over Bobby Jordan from Johnson & Wales put Kramer in the championship final against fourth-ranked Paul Bewak from Johns Hopkins. Kramer lost a tough 6-4 overtime decision to Bewak to take second overall.
Palmeri cruised to the championship bout opening with an 11-0 major decision before posting another major decision with a 15-2 win in the quarterfinal round. Against the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Palmeri used a second period takedown to take control of the match and pinned his opponent at the 4:16 mark to earn the spot in the finals. Palmeri matched up against #2 ranked Chris Chorzepa from Williams College and fell by a score of 8-0 in the title match.
O'Hagan recorded four pins in the consolation bracket at 141 pounds to take fourth place, Dyer lost to the top-seeded wrestler to fall into the consolation bracket but won his final two matches 8-1 and 13-2 to capture third at 149 pounds, Falcon had three victories and took fifth with a medical forfeit by his opponent in the fifth place match and Tristram lost in the championship semifinals before finishing fifth in the 285-pound bracket.
