Middendorf and Welsh Set to Represent Brockport at NCAA DIII Championships

Brockport, NY – Freshmen standouts Trevor Middendorf and Mike Welsh are set to represent the SUNY Brockport wrestling team at the NCAA Division III Championships in Cedar Rapids, IA, at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse on Friday, March 13th, and Saturday, March 14th.

The action begins Friday at 10 AM with the preliminary rounds and the first round of consolations. The stakes rise Friday evening at 6 PM for the championship quarterfinals and the second and third consolation rounds. Saturday morning will feature the semifinal matchups, leading up to the highly anticipated championship finals on Saturday night.

Season Recap: Trevor Middendorf (125 lbs)

Middendorf entered his debut season with a dominant presence, consistently racking up points through technical superiority.

At the Messiah Invitational, he secured a fourth-place finish fueled by three technical falls. He followed this with a third-place showing at the Wilkes Invitational, bouncing back from a semifinal loss to win the bronze-medal bout with a 21-5 tech fall. At the NYS Championships, Middendorf put up 19 team points, including a pin in just 2:12 and a gritty 13-12 decision in the semifinals.

A season highlight came at the SUNYAC Championships, where Middendorf captured first place. He marched through the bracket with three consecutive technical falls before pinning Cortland's Christian Lievano at the 4:10 mark in the final.

Middendorf punched his ticket to the national stage with a second-place finish at the NCAA Regionals. His run was highlighted by a 21-6 tech fall and two hard-fought decision wins to reach the regional final.

Season Recap: Mike Welsh (285 lbs)

Welsh has proven to be a force in the heavyweight division, showing a knack for ending matches early with his pinning ability.

Welsh opened the year with a fifth-place finish at the Messiah Invitational. He quickly improved at the Wilkes Invitational, claiming second place after a dominant run that included a fall (4:34), a major decision, and a decision win.

At the SUNYAC Championships, Welsh recorded three pins to finish fourth overall, contributing 16.5 team points. Welsh secured his national qualification at the NCAA Regionals with a stellar second-place finish. After opening with a tech fall and an 8-0 major decision, he won a thrilling tie-breaker in the semifinals to earn his spot in NCAA Division III Championship.

The two freshmen will now look to cap off their standout debut seasons by climbing the podium at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse
