Freshman Aaron White (North Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) scored 21 points, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, including six three pointers to help The College at Brockport men's basketball team clinch the top spot in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament with an 86-66 defeat against New Paltz on Friday night in Brockport.

Brockport (21-3, 15-2 SUNYAC) took the lead early and never relinquished it. Freshman Clifton Lyerly (Inwood, NY/Lawrence) started off the game with a quick steal and a layup for the Golden Eagles.

New Paltz (6-18, 3-14 SUNYAC) hung around in the first 10 minutes of the game, but strong three point shooting towards the end of the first half gave Brockport a double digit lead. A three pointer from White put the Golden Eagles up by 14 and a minute later a layup from Patrick Coyle (North Chili, NY/Bishop Kearney) and free throws from Mike Gallagher (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) gave Brockport its largest lead of the game, 15, with just over two minutes until halftime.

In the second half, Brockport continued to push their lead. Another three pointer from White put the Golden Eagles up 21 points at 15:27.

Midway through the half, the Hawks made a small run and chipped the Brockport lead down to 12. However, a three from Tyler Ross (West Monroe, NY/Paul V. Moore) and two from Matt Lee (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) gave control back to the Golden Eagles, pushing their lead back out to 19.

In the final five minutes, the closest New Paltz would get was 19 points. Brockport continued its fast paced play and intense defense to finish out the game up by 20 points.

White was phenomenal from long range, hitting all six of his three's. He led scoring and also added four assists and two steals. Lee finished the night with 14 points, three assists and a team-high five rebounds, while Gallagher added 11 points. Coyle chipped in nine points and blocked an impressive six shots.

The Golden Eagles had a strong night shooting the ball. Brockport finished the game shooting 43.8% (28-64) from the floor, 48.3% (14-29) from long range and 66.7% (16-24) from the free throw line. Brockport also forced 23 turnovers and tallied 14 steals.

Brockport returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm for the final game of the regular season and senior night in a SUNYAC home matchup against Oneonta.
